Azerbaijan strengthens fight against drug trafficking and arms smuggling
Evasion from customs dues and taxes is more commonplace among citizens in Azerbaijan, Safar Mehdiyev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee, told
Safar Mehdiyev said there attempt to smuggle goods for which a greater amount of dues is demanded into the country by storing them in secret places and presenting fake documents in order to evade from taxes: “Due to its location in a transit region, Azerbaijan has strengthened the fight against drug trafficking. Azerbaijan is perhaps the first country in Europe that has installed necessary equipment at all border checkpoints, and thus effectively combating both drug trafficking and arms smuggling. Those who attempt to cross from the border drugs or weapons and ammunition are often detained as a result of joint operations with the State Border Service, pneumatic weapons and other explosives seized.
