German journalist Deniz Yücel released from jail in Turkey
German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel has been released after a year of pretrial detention amid terrorism charges, his employer, German newspaper Die Welt, tweeted on Friday, citing his lawyer.

The German Foreign Ministry confirmed his release.

Yücel's detainment was one of the thorny issues between Turkey and Germany and was on Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım's agenda during his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday.

Yıldırım said at a press statement with Merkel that Yücel's case should not be a major problem for the two allies.

Yücel, Die Welt's Istanbul correspondent who was arrested Feb. 14, was accused of spreading terror propaganda for the PKK and inciting hatred.
