Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Iraq for the first time on March 11, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Rouhani will be accompanied by a high-level delegation during the visit.

The former Iraqi President Fuad Masum and the current Iraqi President Barham Salih visited Tehran in 2015 and 2018, respectively. The Iranian President did not go to Baghdad in return.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the Iranian President's visit to Baghdad will take place on an official invitation of the Iraqi side.

He added that the development of bilateral ties will be discussed during the meetings with Iraqi officials.

Zarif went on to say that the results of his and oil minister Bijan Zanganeh’s previous visits to Iraq may be solidified with President Rouhani’s visit.
