UAE to use Artificial Intelligence first time in Special Olympics World Games

The upcoming edition of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, will witness the use of artificial intelligence, AI, for the first time in the history of the games, to ensure its organisational success, AzVision.az reports citing Emirates News Agency.

In an interview with the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Dr. Yousef Al Hammadi, CEO of AI at Abu Dhabi 2019, said that there is a special team dedicated to utilising the latest technologies during the event, which will witness, for the first time in its history, the use of AI, machine learning and the internet while noting that these technologies will benefit everyone and not just the competitors.

He added that advanced AI technologies will be used to analyse data and identify the presence of the public, to provide them with the best services.

He also explained that before the application of AI in the international event, technical meetings with people of determination were held, to explore the key challenges facing in their lives while noting that after the meetings, they contacted many start-ups from around the world to learn about relevant innovative solutions.

Al Hammadi stressed that Abu Dhabi 2019 will witness the application of smartphones, which will serve as communication tools between the event’s organising committee and participants while further adding that the game will provide an advanced technical programme for competitors that will include their scheduling.

He affirmed that athletes will be supplied with smartwatches, to enable them to communicate efficiently and positively.

The opening ceremony will take place in Zayed Sports City on Thursday, 14th March 2019, with the participation of 40,000 spectators inside the stadium and millions of viewers around the world.
