TANAP being implemented ahead of schedule
The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline construction project (TANAP) is being implemented ahead of the schedule, DHA agency reported with the reference to Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz May 5.
He said that TANAP project is important not only for Turkey but also for Europe.

“The fact that Turkey is negotiating with Russia over the construction of Turkish Stream gas pipeline does not mean that it can somehow affect the TANAP implementation,” Yildiz said.

The TANAP project envisages the transportation of gas of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from the Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey.

TANAP’s initial capacity is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest of the volume to Europe.

Turkey will obtain gas in 2018. The gas will be supplied to Europe in early 2020 after the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is constructed.

BP and the TANAP consortium signed a shareholder agreement March 13, according to which BP will become one of the shareholders of TANAP. The agreement is one of the main documents for BP’s ownership of a stake in the TANAP project.

Following the completion of a legal implementation procedure, TANAP’s shareholders list will be as follows: SOCAR – 58 percent, Botas – 30 percent and BP – 12 percent.

Turkish Stream envisages transportation of gas from Russia to Turkey through the Black Sea. Russia’s Gazprom company and Turkish BOTAS signed a memorandum of understanding on construction of the pipeline on Dec.1, 2014.

The pipeline’s pumping capacity will be 63 billion cubic meters and it is planned to deliver around 50 billion cubic meters of this volume to the new gas hub on Turkish-Greek border.

It is also planned that the first line of the pipeline, with a pumping capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year, will be stretched to Turkey.
