UN sends 17 truckloads of aid to Syria

The UN has sent 17 truckloads of humanitarian aid supplies to Syria's northwestern Idlib province on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The convoy passed through the Cilvegozu border gate in southern Hatay’s Reyhanli district, an official working at a logistic center on the Turkish border told Anadolu Agency.

The humanitarian aid will be distributed to people in need in Idlib and its rural areas.

Last September, Turkey and Russia agreed to turn Idlib into a de-escalation zone in which acts of aggression would be strictly prohibited.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected severity.
