Azerbaijani man in US shot and killed during home invasion while children were inside

A man was shot and killed during a home invasion in Wyomissing, Berks County on Monday night while his children were inside the house. The shooting happened at a home on Birchwood Road around 10 p.m.

According to police, 37-year-old Nail Salamov, a local banker, was in his bedroom when two men came inside, sprayed him with mace, and shot him in the armpit. His 8- and 10-year-old children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.

“This is just something a child should never be exposed to. We’re concerned about that and also concerned someone would do this while children are in the home. That is just unacceptable and, of course as a result, it’s so concerning to us to get some leads and identify the perpetrators of this offense,” said Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams.

While he was being transported to Reading Hospital, Salamov told first responders that two men broke into his home and shot him.

He later died at the hospital. Authorities don’t have much evidence, nor do they have a good description of the gunmen.

“We’re looking for help from the public, quite frankly video, did anybody see two black males in the area,” said Adams.

The district attorney also said it’s not clear at this time if the shooting was targeted, but a police source says it does appear someone wanted Salamov dead.

The children are being taken care of by their grandfather, who also lives at the home. He was at work at the time of the shooting.

Neighbors have not seen a homicide investigation in five years, but that changed Monday night. They want the gunmen caught.
