New US tariffs on Chinese imports to affect toys, iPhones, weapons

New US customs tariffs set to be introduced on Chinese imports from September 1, will affect children's toys, clothing, shoes, as well as electronic devices such as iPhone smartphones, and even weapons, CNN reported.

President Donald Trump announced that the US will introduce new tariffs at a rate of 10% on September 1 for goods from China worth $ 300 billion. According to the White House, the US will continue to impose tariffs on goods from China until Washington and Beijing enter into a trade deal.

The introduction of new tariffs will lead to the fact that the US will charge almost all Chinese imports to America. According to the portal, tariffs affect such items as coats, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, and even underwear.

The fees will apply to electronic devices - smartphones, iPhones, microphones, digital cameras, headphones, game consoles.

Other items on the list include children's toys, dairy products, flowers, vegetables and fruits, spices, alcohol, furniture and household goods, sports equipment, including golf clubs, which Trump likes to play.

The portal noted that in the fall prices for consumer goods will increase markedly, despite assurances by the head of state and representatives of his administration to the contrary.

Trade disputes

China and the US for several months conducted talks on the settlement of trade disputes. In the first half of May, the 11th round of consultations was held in the US capital, but after that, the dialogue reached an impasse. On May 10, Washington introduced additional tariffs on Chinese products worth $ 200 billion, raising the rate from 10% to 25%. In early June, the Chinese government responded to over 5 thousand US commodity items worth $ 60 billion.

The decision to resume consultations was reached at a meeting of Trump and Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Osaka from June 28-29. The US leader promised not to introduce new tariffs on goods from China, as well as to relax restrictions on the activities of Huawei.

Beijing, in its turn, expressed its readiness to increase purchases of agricultural products from the United States.

Earlier this week, the 12th round of talks was held in Shanghai. On Wednesday, the White House issued a statement in which he called past meetings constructive, but on Thursday, the US president tweeted the US would introduce new tariffs at a rate of 10% on September 1 for goods from China worth $ 300 billion.

The next round of talks is expected to be held in Washington in early September.
