Brazilian President cancels summit on Amazon due to surgery

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaru will not participate in the international meeting on Amazon in Colombia in connection with the upcoming surgery on September 8. This was reported by the press secretary of the head of state, Otaviu Reg Barrus, TASS reported.

The leaders of the South American states on whose territory the Amazon forests are located will gather in Colombian Leticia on September 6 to discuss issues related to natural fires in the region.

In early September 2018, Bolsonaru was stabbed during a meeting with voters in the city of Juiz de Fora in southeast Brazil. The politician spent more than three weeks in the hospital and underwent two surgeries. The third and last surgical intervention at the moment took place in late January and consisted of the removal of the colostomy sac, which Bolsonaru used due to intestinal injuries, and the complete restoration of the intestinal tract.
