Iran reports 2,258 new COVID-19 cases, 63 deaths

Iran on Thursday registered 2,258 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 143,849 since its outbreak in late February, according to an update by the health ministry, AzVision.az reports citing Xinhua.

Meanwhile, 63 new death cases were reported over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 7,627.

Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the ministry, said a total of 112,988 patients have recovered from the infectious disease, while 2,543 are still in critical condition and under treatment.

So far, 876,492 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in Iran, he noted.

Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19.
