Armenia trying to create new source of tension in region: Azerbaijani envoy

Armenia is trying to create a new source of tension in the region, particularly in the border area of the two countries, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Qatar Rashad Ismayilov told The Peninsula.

The diplomat said that Armenia’s recent military provocation took place on the border with Azerbaijan, not along the line of contact between the two countries’ troops.

“For the most parts of the border of Azerbaijan in the Western dimension are now taken by the state border service of Azerbaijan. But on the Armenian side, on the contrary, will see further militarization of the border of two countries and deployment of heavy armaments and artillery,” Ismayilov added.

He stressed that the Armenian side tries to derail the negotiations process by all means, to not liberate Azerbaijani territories. “They are also seeking yet another purpose, maybe to involve the political-military organization of which they are member, to this conflict.”

The diplomat said that the Armenian government keeps taking such illegal actions in order to divert the people’s attention from the ongoing difficult socio-economic situation in the countries.

Ismayilov also condemned Armenian shelling of Azerbaijani civilians.

“Many regional organizations such as Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Turkish Council and many brotherly and friendly countries like Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Moldova made a clear position and strongly condemned the attack by the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia on the Tovuz region in the Republic of Azerbaijan and their violations of the ceasefire on the border region between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he added.
