According to the reliable and confirmed information, Khalaf Khalafov noted that Serbia sent a large amount of ammunition to Armenia, including mortars and ammunition of various calibers.
Khalaf Khalafov said that Armenians used mortars and various artillery equipments during the provocation committed in the Tovuz direction of Azerbaijan-Armenia border. In retaliatory attacks, 10 Azerbaijani servicemen, one major general as well as a civilian martyred.
Deputy Foreign Minister also drew attention to the strategic partnership existing between Azerbaijan and Serbia.Khalafov also spoke of the declaration on friendship and a strategic partnership signed in 2013 and the joint action plan for the strategic partnership signed in 2018 between two countries.
In accordance with those documents, Azerbaijan and Serbia recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each other.
Serbia supports the settlement of Armenia–Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in compliance with norms and principles of the international law including resolutions of the UN Security Council and decisions of the OSCE based on sovereignty, territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
K.Khalafov said, the Republic of Azerbaijan remaining loyal to the strategic partnership between two countries, always tries to offer its helping hand to friendly Serbia in difficult times. Serbia, in turn, has always appreciated Azerbaijan's assistance. He stated that Azerbaijan has consistently supported Serbia's territorial integrity.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that the issue of sending weapons to Armenia is always a sensitive issue on the agenda of bilateral relations, he said.
Therefore, the unfriendly step taken by Serbia in support of the aggressive policy of Armenia and the ongoing aggression against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan causes deep regret among the Azerbaijani people and leadership. Khalafov stressed that such unfriendly activities undermine friendly relations and strategic partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia, and overshadow the existing high level of mutual confidence.
Referring to the main purposes of the Armenian military provocation destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus and undermining the security and stability in the region, the Deputy Foreign Minister said Azerbaijan expects the Republic of Serbia to eliminate the causes of such actions.
Charge d'Affairs of Serbia to Azerbaijan Danica Veinović said she had no information on the issues, promised to convey the information to the Serbian side, expressed regret over the incidents and hoped that they would not damage the Serbian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and friendship.
