Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh issues statement on 27th anniversary of occupation of Jabrayil, Fuzuli districts

The Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan has issued a statement on the 27th anniversary of the occupation of the Jabrayil and Fuzuli districts by the Armenian armed forces.

The statement reads:

“On August 23, 1993, the Jabrayil and Fuzuli districts of Azerbaijan were occupied by the Armenian armed forces.

As a result of the occupation of 1,050 sq. km of the territory of the Jabrayil district, about 60 thousand people were subjected to ethnic cleansing, and the regional center and 90 villages were destroyed. Meanwhile, 400 people were martyred, 91 people were captured and 177 people became disabled.

As a result of the occupation of the center of the Fuzuli district and its 50 villages, some 657 people were martyred, 181 were captured and went missing, as well as about 400 local residents became disabled.

The occupation of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding areas by Armenia shows that this country’s real goal is to annex our territories by using force.

We declare once again that a fair and lasting settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is possible only after the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from all our occupied lands and the return of our compatriots, who have been subjected to ethnic cleansing, to their native lands.”
