 Azerbaijani presidential aide holds virtual meeting with NGO heads

Assistant to Azerbaijan’s President Hikmet Hajiyev on Thursday held a meeting via videoconferencing with heads of 96 non-governmental organizations operating in the socio-economic, humanitarian and democratic spheres.

The meeting took place within the framework of the ongoing NGO-government dialogue, AzVision.az reports.

Delivering opening remarks at the meeting, Azay Guliyev, Chairman of Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan, said the Council has always supported the initiatives put forward by NGOs operating in the socio-economic, humanitarian and democratic spheres, as well as financed projects of public importance.

Guliyev noted that tens of thousands of Azerbaijani citizens have benefited the projects implemented with the Council’s support.

President aide Hajiyev said today he is meeting one of the largest groups of NGOs, which have a wide range of activities and play an important role in society.

The work done in Azerbaijan in the socio-economic, humanitarian and democratic spheres proves that the policy being pursued in the country prioritize human factor, Hajiyev added.

The presidential aide emphasized the importance of closer and more effective involvement of NGOs in the organization of public control over the activities of central and local executive authorities. Hajiyev underscored the need to create new and more flexible mechanisms in this regard.

He said Azerbaijan has become the fastest-growing, stable and powerful state in the South Caucasus region.

“Our country has managed to maintain its leadership in the world in terms of GDP growth. Poverty has fallen sharply in the country, and state budget revenues have increased. A strong social policy being pursued under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership is mainly focused on improving the people’s living conditions,” the presidential aide added.

In conclusion, Hajiyev considered today’s meeting to be useful, adding that the opinions and proposals voiced by the NGO heads will be analyzed and appropriate steps will be taken.
