Amnesty International has once again proved that it is an independent organisation only on paper but in reality, it is a Pro-Armenian, unilateral, biased and double-standard organisation, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev told Trend while commenting on the statement which does not reflect the reality and disregard Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan on September 27.
Azerbaijani Presidents’ Aide noted that Amnesty International, which calls itself a non-governmental organization, is, in fact, inflicting a great blow on the philosophy of NGOs by implementing the political orders.
"We reject this statement by Amnesty International. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces are fighting on our territories to restore the territorial integrity of our country and strike only legitimate military targets with high accuracy. Our army does not target civilians and facilities and does not use cluster bombs", Hikmet Hajiyev stated.
Hajiyev also touched on the use of cluster munitions highlighting that if Armenia is concerned about the use of cluster munitions, then it should join the convention on cluster munitions itself. He also stressed that Armenia uses cluster munitions against the civilian population of Azerbaijan.
"The question is why Amnesty International ignores rocket attacks from Armenia on the civilians in Ganja, Azerbaijan's second-largest city and Mingachevir, in which a large reservoir and power plant, as well as other strategic facilities, located. These cities are located far from the frontline. Since September 27 until today, 27 civilians were killed and 141 wounded as a result of Armenian attacks. Also, 63 civilian objects and 376 houses were damaged. Armenian missile attacks pose a great threat to international civil aviation", Hajiyev emphasized.
"Besides, Amnesty International, which pretends to be a"herald of justice", by calling Azerbaijan to accede to the Convention on Cassette Ammunition, does not call on Armenia to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions which require the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.
This fraudulent organization evokes a feeling of disgust in Azerbaijani society. President Ilham Aliyev provided the most accurate assessment of the activities of Amnesty International and similar" non-governmental organizations "during his speech at the general discussions of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly on September 24", he added.
