According to Abu Marzouk, who spoke on Al-Quds TV, the attack in Sinai "is detrimental to the security of Palestinians, especially those living in Gaza, since Sinai is the only exit for Gaza residents." He condemned "attempts to tie the Hamas to the incidents that took place in Sinai," adding that there was no evidence to this effect.
"Hamas`s relations with Egypt have much improved," Abu Marzouk stated, adding that this was due to deliberate effort on the Hamas`s part. He also told Al-Quds TV that every time the relations between the two polities improve an incident takes place in Sinai that strains their ties.
"We condemn the most recent attack in Sinai since it is detrimental to our security and has implications on the relations [with Egypt]," he said.
In the same television interview Abu Marzouk also commented on the reports that Israel and the Hamas were negotiating a long-term ceasefire. No negotiations whatsoever were taking place, he said. Some ambassadors and other diplomats were promoting initiatives on their own accord, but none were authorized to negotiate on behalf of the Hamas, he added.
He said that if talks would take place they wouldn`t be secret. "We won`t meet with anyone in secrecy, no matter what is being discussed."
