 63 mosques completely destroyed in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions

63 mosques were completely destroyed and 4 were partially destroyed out of 67 officially operating mosques in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told AzVision.az.

The information was obtained as a result of the project titled "Damage to historical and cultural monuments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan" and implemented within the cooperation with the International Foundation for Turkish Culture and Heritage, the Institute of Law and Human Rights of ANAS and the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO

The author of ​​the project, Chairman of the Public Union "Organization for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan" Faig Ismayilov noted that 74 historical and cultural monuments in Lachin, 91 in Kalbajar, 71 in Gubadli, 93 in Jabrayil, 56 in Zangilan, 71 in Fuzuli, 140 in Aghdam, 93 in Khojavend, 215 in Shusha and 28 in Khojaly were damaged. 

Among 903 monuments registered by the state, there are monuments of local, regional and international importance. Besides, there are 1647 unregistered monuments in the area.

Ismayilov said that the amount of damage to monuments is billions of US dollars.
