On November 12, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova held a meeting with a delegation led by the VP of the Association of Friends of Azerbaijan in France, MP Jerome Lambert, AzVision.az reports.
The speaker Sahiba Gafarov mentioned the counter-attacks carried out by the Azerbaijani Army in response to the military provocations committed by Armenia on September 27 in 2020 while speaking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Sahiba Gafarov expressed her regrets over a lack of support by France on Azerbaijan's position in the conflict despite the relations between two countries.
"On the contrary, a number of high-ranking French officials made statements supporting Armenia's occupation policy. The latest statement by Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is completely biased and inconsistent with France's mandate as OSCE Minsk Group co-chair. All these, of course, cause legitimate dissatisfaction in the Azerbaijani public. Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity within the framework of international law norms and principles ", Gafarov highlighted.
The speaker expressed confidence that the views expressed during the visits of the French delegation to Azerbaijan will be discussed in the French National Assembly. She expressed hope that the visit would give a new impetus to the development of relations between the two countries.
The members of the French-Azerbaijani friendship group shared their views on the development of inter-parliamentary relations and the processes taking place in the South Caucasus at the meeting.
The sides also exchanged view over the issues of mutual interest.
