Russian FM highlights significance of international humanitarian institutions for Nagorno-Karabakh peace deal

Russia expects the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and UN agencies to contribute to the resolution of the humanitarian problems in Karabakh, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, AzVision.az reports.

"We hope that other humanitarian institutions, particularly the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), will be part of the solution process in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Considering the protection of the cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh, UNESCO can play a very important role”, Russian FM noted.

Sergey Lavrov also highlighted the significance of the ICRC which has operated in both Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region for a long time stating that the cessation of hostilities based on these agreements will open up additional opportunities for the Committee.
