Ombudsperson to appeal to ICRC, UN over Azerbaijani soldiers captured by Armenia

On November 12, Azerbaijan’s Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) Sabina Aliyeva sent appeals to the relevant international organizations over a gross violation of the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, torture and humiliating behavior towards Azerbaijani soldiers captured as a result of Armenia’s repeated military aggression since September this year.

The appeals contain facts of inhuman treatment of Azerbaijani prisoners of war by the Armenian armed forces and demand that international organizations conduct an appropriate investigation, put an end to this, return the prisoners of war to Azerbaijan in accordance with international norms, take the necessary steps to bring to responsibility the military-political leadership of Armenia, which grossly violated human rights and freedoms for committing acts considered war crimes, the Ombudsperson’s Office told AzVision.az.

It should be noted that from the very first days, the Ombudsperson has been closely following the issue related to the Azerbaijani soldiers – Amin Musayev and Bayramov Karimov – who are captured by Armenian servicemen. In this regard, the Ombudsperson prepared a repeated appeal to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the UN.
