Roads in Aghdam city being cleared of landmines by ANAMA - PHOTOS

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA)  is carrying out a demining operation around the highway leading to the Agdam city, said Idris Ismayilov, the head of ANAMA's operational headquarters.

“A 7-kilometer-long highway and its edges have already been cleared of all land mines in the liberated areas. Mines and unexploded ordnance were found and neutralized”, Ismayilov noted.

Ismayilov also mentioned the manual and mechanical landline clearing works along the road to lay communication lines highlighting that the next day, mine detection dogs will be involved in the area. He also added that the search operations will be completed soon and then mine clearance operation will continue in the Agdam city.

Following over a month of military action to liberate its territories from Armenian occupation, Azerbaijan has pushed Armenia to sign the surrender document. A joint statement on the matter was made by Azerbaijani president, Armenia's PM and the president of Russia.

A complete ceasefire and a cessation of all hostilities in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is introduced at 00:00 hours (Moscow time) on November 10.

Under the agreement, a total of 1,960 Russian peacekeepers were deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh under a five-year mandate.

Also, according to the agreement, on 20 November, Armenia handed over the Aghdam region which lies to the east of Nagorno-Karabakh, to Azerbaijan. This followed on 25 November by the Kalbajar region to the northwest of Nagorno-Karabakh

Finally, on 1 December, Armenia will hand over the Lachin District.
