Italian senator: Azerbaijan is the right side in Karabakh conflict

Italian “Radio Radicale” radio and Vento & Associati think tank have organized an event titled "Peace in Nagorno-Karabakh: Diplomatic ceasefire or lasting peace".

Addressing the event, Adolfo Urso, a senator representing the Brothers of Italy party, and a member of the Italian Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that a total of 1 million Azerbaijanis, including 250,000 from Armenia and 750,000 others from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan have become refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Defence.az reports.

"Although the international community, especially the OSCE Minsk Group, developed a solution that includes the gradual return of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the provision of a corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, as well as the determination of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, unfortunately, Armenia refused. Only the war forced Armenia to agree to a solution to the conflict," said the Italian senator.

The Italian parliamentarian stressed that the recent war in the Caucasus is a dramatic consequence of the lack of peace. If Armenia had returned Azerbaijani lands and not prevented the return of Azerbaijani IDPs to their homes, the war would not have taken place. "Azerbaijan is the right side in this conflict from the point of view of UN resolutions and international law," the senator added.
