  Azerbaijan MFA comments on Belgium

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who is on a working visit to Belgium to attend a meeting of the Azerbaijan-EU Cooperation Council, held a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions Sophie Wilmes, said Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Leyla Abdullayeva while commenting on the draft resolution adopted by the Belgian Federal Parliament.

On December 17, during the plenary session of the House of Representatives of the Belgian Federal Parliament, a draft resolution titled "Support to the initiatives of Belgium and international organizations for a lasting solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and a ceasefire" was adopted.

"During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov conveyed to the Belgian official our protest and dissatisfaction with the adoption of a resolution by the Belgian Parliament reflecting baseless and biased allegations against Azerbaijan, as well as Turkey", Leyla Abdullayeva noted.

Abdullayeva also called the resolution which covers biased opinions 'baseless' although it also refers to the international law norms and principles, as well as to UN Security Council Resolutions 822, 853, 874 and 884 of 1993.

"Sophie Wilmes noted that his country, Belgium has always been guided by international law in interstate relations," she added.
