Naples City Council adopts document in support of Azerbaijan

The Naples City Council has adopted a document in support of Azerbaijan.

The document "Appeal to the Italian government to take steps to express respect for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and strengthen the multifaceted strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Italy" submitted by City Council member Vincenzo Solombrino was unambiguously adopted, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Rome told AzVision.az.

The document notes that the Nagorno-Karabakh region, internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven surrounding districts were occupied by Armenia in the early 1990s, and all Azerbaijanis were expelled from these territories.

The document emphasizes that after another act of aggression by Armenia against Azerbaijan on 27 September 2020, a new war erupted, which lasted 44 days.

“The city of Naples supports the peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with international law, the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, enshrined in the relevant international documents, as well as in the UN and OSCE resolutions. The city of Naples also urges the Italian government to call on the parties to the conflict to fulfill their obligations under the statement signed by the Azerbaijani president, the Armenian prime minister and the Russian president on 10 November 2020,” the document says.

It also stresses that the end of the conflict and the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from occupation, as well as the launch of a strategic plan for the reconstruction of those territories will lead to the next stage of development in Azerbaijan.
