 Russian peacekeepers clear more than 400 hectares of lands of mines in Karabakh

Russian peacekeepers cleared more than 420 hectares of land of mines in the Nagorno-Karabakh region since November 23, says the Russian Defense Ministry.

Since November 23, 2020, during the mine clearance operations, the Russian peacekeeping forces cleared 160.8 km of roads, 617 residential buildings, including 22 social facilities, and neutralized more than 19, 600 explosives. .

Detected explosives and unexploded ordnance are destroyed in a specially equipped landfill. Ammunition that cannot be evacuated is neutralized on the spot.

Note, the Armenian Armed Forces launched a large-scale military attack on positions of Azerbaijani army on the front line, using large-caliber weapons, mortars and artillery on Sept. 27. Azerbaijan responded with a counter-offensive along the entire front.

On November 10, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement to end six weeks of fierce fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Under the agreement, Russian peacekeepers were deployed along the front line in Nagorno-Karabakh and the corridor between the region and Armenia.

A total of 1,960 Russian peacekeepers were deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh under a five-year mandate.
