Azerbaijan to receive 84,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in early April

Chairman of the State Agency for Mandatory Health Insurance of Azerbaijan Zaur Aliyev on Tuesday held a virtual meeting with Rosie Grieves, senior communications manager at Gavi (the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation) and Edward Carwardine, UNICEF Representative to Azerbaijan.

The parties discussed the issue of importing the AztraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Azerbaijan, the Agency told AzVision.az.

Grieves said 84,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be delivered to Azerbaijan from South Korea on April 5 at the first stage. She noted that the vaccine will be supplied to Azerbaijan within 5-6 days.

Furthermore, Grieves said 218,790 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be allocated to Azerbaijan within eight weeks.

In general, 432,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are planned to be delivered to Azerbaijan by the end of May.

Z. Aliyev, in turn, expressed hope that the COVAX platform will remain committed to its obligations towards Azerbaijan and will ensure the vaccine delivery to the country at the promised time.
