Relations between Azerbaijani and Iranian border guards at high level
Relations between Iranian and Azerbaijani border guard services are at high level, Commander of Iranian Border Guard Hussein Zulfugari said on Tuesday.
"Relations between borders guard of the two countries are at high level. I pay a visit to Azerbaijan for the third time. As a result of efforts of border guards, no security problems were observed on Azerbaijani-Iranian border during this period. Therefore, Iranian-Azerbaijani borders are known as the borders of friendship and peace," the Iranian Commander said.

According to him, relations between the two states in this sphere develop day by day as in other spheres. He also noted that the leaders and nations of the two states want to strengthen relations with each other.

He noted that the main aim of border guards is to ensure security of citizens. "Of course, if the country`s borders are not guarded, this will lead to the increase of crime and smuggling," Zulfugari added.

The Commander also noted that currently Iran faces with border problems with several states. Iran faces with the problems such as drug trafficking, weapon, illegal immigrants. As a result of fighting against these problems, Iran has already got over 4,000 killed and 12,000 injured.

He added that if Iran doesn`t largely fight against terrorism, terrorism will cover the entire region. "It is related to the fact that Iran is located in such geographical position that terrorist groups act both in the West and in the North. Our fighting against terrorism is in favor of the whole region," Zulfugari said.

Talking about the issue of fighting against drugs, he noted that over 38 tons of drugs is destroyed in Iran each month.

According to him, fighting against drugs in Iran contributes to solving of this problem in the region. "In reality, Iran fights against drugs in 1000 kilometers from your border. We would like that Azerbaijani journalists and border guards would come and see these places and witness our struggle. It can be said that we conduct an armed fighting against smugglers," Zulfugari stressed.
