Statement without the words “Karabakh” and “captive” – COMMENTARY

The November 26 meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi ended with the signing of another trilateral statement.

The fact that the statement does not reflect the word “Karabakh” testifies to Armenia’s acceptance of the existing realities in the region.

Russian President Putin’s repeated use of the phrase “corridor” to express his support for the Zangazur corridor project should be a serious signal to Armenia.

The delimitation and demarcation of borders is one of the priorities for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The inclusion of this issue in the Sochi statement is another successful step taken by Azerbaijan to achieve its goals.

What’s the most important is that the statement does not contain a single word about the issue of captives and hostages Armenian PM Pashinyan has been insisting on for a year and also touched upon at yesterday’s meeting. The facts about captives and hostages voiced by the Azerbaijani president thwarted Pashinyan’s false allegations.

The Sochi statement once again shows that Pashinyan’s lies and fabrications are no longer believed by Armenia’s neighbors, rivals, or strategic allies.
