Azerbaijan, Romania exchange views over energy co-operation

Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov received Romanian delegation including his counterpart Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Special Envoy for Strategic and International Affairs Ana Birchall, as well as the senior officials of Transgaz and Romgaz companies, AzViison.az reports via the ministry.

The parties discussed the priority areas of energy cooperation between the two countries and noted an important role of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania in the development of such cooperation.

Besides, the parties considered a project of laying fiber-optic cable through Azerbaijan and Georgia along the Black Sea bottom to Romania. The country was invited to participate in the currently forming Working Group on the project.

Shahbazov stressed the importance of the project in terms of expanding the export opportunities of electricity between the region and the European market and highlighted the potential and plans of Azerbaijan for the export of “green energy”.

The minister noted that the ongoing renewable energy projects and plans related to the realization of offshore wind energy potential can make Azerbaijan an important partner of Europe in the export of electricity and hydrogen, which will be produced from “green energy” sources.

The sides also exchanged views on other perspectives of bilateral energy cooperation.
