Turkey would like to organize Lavrov-Kuleba meeting in Antalya, Turkish FM says

Ankara would like to organize a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a press conference in the wake of emergency meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers Friday, TASS reports.

“Turkey is one of few states that can establish a dialogue with both sides. Even before the war, we planned to gather both Foreign Minister at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, but it was before the war. We want to bring Ukrainian and Russian sides together at the ministerial level. Yesterday, Lavrov confirmed his participation [in the forum], but I don’t know if the Ukrainian Foreign Minister will be able to come in these circumstances,” he said.

He also noted that the “open Turkish airspace has strategic and humanitarian importance”.

The Antalya Diplomacy Forum is expected to take place on March 11-13; one day earlier, Russian, Iranian and Turkish Foreign Ministers will have an Astana Format meeting on Syria.
