Russia recruits Hezbollah mercenaries to fight in Ukraine: General Staff

Russia is recruiting mercenaries of Bashar al-Assad, who controls a part of Syria, and Lebanon's Hezbollah group, to the war in Ukraine, AzVision.az reports citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The command of the Russian Armed Forces continues to take measures to compensate for the losses of personnel at the expense of foreigners. According to new information, the Russian occupiers have already recruited about 1,000 mercenaries from Bashar al-Assad and members of the so-called Hezbollah army.

“The main requirement for foreign fighters is combat experience in the city. At the same time, according to available information, the militants do not intend to take part in military operations in Ukraine, but to use their missions as an opportunity to travel to European countries," the statement reads.

Lebanon's pro-Iranian militarized body and political party, Hezbollah, is known as a terrorist organization in a number of countries.
