Japan bans imports of 38 goods from Russia

Japan introduced an import ban on 38 goods from Russia in response to its war in Ukraine, AzVision.az reports citing Anadolu Agency.

The ban was in line with the US and European sanctions against Russia.

Among the banned items, six are alcoholic drinks including beer, four are lumber-related items such as logs, and 28 are electric and other machinery including automobiles and auto parts.

The ban accounts for 1.1% of Japan's total imports from Russia in 2021.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said alternative import routes will be preferred for the products in question.

Cabinet Chief Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu stated that international sanctions have had an impact on the Russian economy.

"Japan, in cooperation with the international community, imposes harsh sanctions on Russia to prevent the crisis from escalating and to achieve a cease-fire as soon as possible," Matsuno added.
