  MFA: Five Azerbaijani citizens die in earthquake-hit Turkiye

The number of Azerbaijani citizens killed in the earthquake in Türkiye has reached 5, AzVision.az reports citing Azerbaijani MFA.

"For today, we received information about the death of 5 citizens of Azerbaijan as a result of the earthquake: Bunyatova Nailya, born in 1980, Mamedova (Okten) Rena, born in 1973, Mamedova Sevinj, born in 1975, Karly Leila Vahid, born in 1976, Hasanzade Ilaha, born in 1974. Contact was established with the relatives of the victims. Karly Leyla will be buried in Türkiye. Appropriate measures are being taken to send the bodies of 4 people to Azerbaijan," the MFA said.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 hit southeastern Türkiye on Feb. 6, 2023. The earthquake occurred at a depth of seven kilometres in the Pazarcik region of Kahramanmaras Province. The provinces of Hatay, Gaziantep, Kilis, Osmaniye, Malatya, Adiyaman, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana and Kahramanmaras were subjected to severe destruction.

The quake’s epicentre was located 26 km away from the city of Gaziantep with a population of about 1.06 million.

Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said that three more earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.4-6.6 rocked Gaziantep province in south-eastern Türkiye. As a result of the earthquake that hit Türkiye, strong tremors were also felt in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Cyprus.
