Speaker Valentina Matviyenko hailed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries based on good neighborliness and mutual understanding.
She also underscored Azerbaijani First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva’s contribution to the further expansion of bilateral relations.
Russian Federal Council Speaker also touched upon the fruitful development of cooperation between the countries’ legislative authorities both on bilateral format and within international parliamentary organizations. Matviyenko noted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation signed between Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis and Russia’s State Duma will mark the beginning of a new stage of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her confidence that the document will contribute to the further development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations.
Highlighting bilateral inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova praised the activity of the inter-parliamentary friendship group and Azerbaijan-Russia inter-parliamentary commission.
Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova also provided insight into the large-scale reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories, normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, situation on the Lachin road, mine threat, as well as the terrorist act committed against Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Iran.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
