Security sources told Anadolu Agency that the incident occurred after a group of PKK terrorists attacked a control point of police with automatic refiles and rocket launchers in central Cumhuriyet neighborhood.
Several armored vehicles and special operations teams have been dispatched to the area following the attack.
A wide-scale operation has been launched in the region to nab the terrorists.
Sunday evening saw the 16 soldiers martyred in PKK mine attack on two armed military vehicles in southeastern Daglica town of Hakkari`s Yuksekova district, the deadliest since the terrorist group renewed its armed attacks late July.
Across Turkey, people -- in car or on foot -- are pouring to streets for the last three nights in protest of Daglica and other terrorist attacks, as they carry Turkish flags in support of security forces and chant slogans condemning PKK and terrorism.
Since July`s Suruc bombing, more than 90 members of the security forces have been martyred in the violence while land-and-air operations in Turkey and northern Iraq have killed nearly a thousand terrorists.
According to a Turkish General Staff statement released early Monday, only 13 PKK targets were bombed by two F-16 and two F-14 aircraft in an operation launched after the attack.
