They discussed the current state of and prospects for Azerbaijan-Vatican relations, as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the current situation in the region.
FM Jeyhun Bayramov said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the relations between the two countries, and expressed confidence that new embassy of Azerbaijan in Vatican would contribute to the further development of cooperation. The Azerbaijani FM also noted that the high-level reciprocal visits gave impetus to the development of these ties.
Minister Bayramov informed the Secretary of State of the situation after the 44-day Patriotic War, as well as the crimes, vandalism and destroyed cultural and religious heritage in Azerbaijan`s liberated territories. The minister also briefed Pietro Parolin on the mine threats and other provocations committed by Armenia.
Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin hailed Azerbaijan's participation in the restoration of the historical and religious sites of the Vatican, described it as a contribution to intercultural dialogue.
The parties also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
