Azerbaijani PM meets with his Uzbek counterpart

Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov has met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, AzVision.az reports.

Prior to the extended meeting, the PMs held one-on-one talks to discuss the current issues of the bilateral agenda. Then, the meeting of the Prime Ministers continued with the participation of the two countries’ delegations.

During the meeting, the sides underlined that the basis of bilateral relations between the two countries had been laid by the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

Azerbaijani PM Asadov expressed gratitude for the excellent organization of events in Uzbekistan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The two PMs noted that today thanks to the joint efforts of the heads of state Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations have reached the level of comprehensively developing strategic partnership.

The parties said that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan cooperate closely within international organizations, including the UN, CIS, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Organization of Turkic States. They noted that personal relations between the heads of state based on mutual trust and constant contacts play a key role in strengthening bilateral relations, and thus, in this context, last year was very productive - the President of Azerbaijan visited Uzbekistan three times.

Ali Asadov wished success to the Uzbekistan’s presidency of the Organization of Turkic States.
The sides also noted the importance of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Azerbaijan this March to participate in the Summit-level Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19.

Preparatory works are full swing for the Uzbekistani President’s state visit to Azerbaijan.
Prime Minister Ali Asadov gave insight into the large-scale restoration and development projects, which are in progress in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, and expressed his gratitude for the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to build a school designed for 960 students in the liberated city of Fuzuli.

Noting the importance of the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan held on July 18 in Shusha, the PMs expressed their hope that the decisions reached at the meeting would help to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

They also lauded the economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries and expressed satisfaction with the significant increase in the goods turnover, which increased by about 64 percent as of late 2022.

The Uzbek side was also informed about the favourable investment climate in Azerbaijan.
The parties hailed the prospects of cooperation in the field of transport and transit, as well as the development of industrial cooperation, cooperation in the fields of cotton and sericulture.

Emphasizing active energy interaction, the PMs noted that energy cooperation roadmap was signed last year between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

They touched upon good opportunities in the field of renewable energy sources. The Prime Ministers praised productive cooperation in a number of areas, including agriculture, cultural-humanitarian, education, healthcare and other ones.

Furthermore, co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov delivered a speech at the meeting.
