Georgian Infrastructure Minister: 103 units of heavy equipment used in Shovi landslide rescue operations

Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze on Friday said 103 units of heavy hardware were being used in 10 locations for the search and clearing operations in the disaster-affected zone in the western municipality of Oni, where a landslide killed at least 24 last week, according to Agenda.ge.

Karseladze said rescuers had managed to cross the river in the Shovi resort hit by the disaster and reach the opposing bank, and emphasised the importance of the road built for access to 20 vehicles stuck in the debris following the landslide that were removed over the past two days.

He also said “intensive works” were being carried out in the area and noted “all resources” had been used in the operations from the very beginning.

Karseladze added equipment “most useful for the purpose” would be added to the ongoing works and pointed out “great efforts” performed by the rescuers, Defence Forces servicemembers and heavy equipment operators over the past days.
