Total of 2,728 mines produced in Armenia in 2021 discovered and deactivated in Karabakh - Azerbaijani FM

From August 2022 to the present, a total of 2,728 mines produced in Armenia in 2021 have been discovered and deactivated in Karabakh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov said at the UN Security Council meeting, AzVision.az reports.

The minister reminded that, on September 19, a truck with employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan blew up on one of Armenia-planted mine. The employees died on the spot. The truck was on its way to the site of the terrorist attack that took place on the same day at the 58th kilometer of the Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha road passing through the Khojavend district, which killed employees of the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan.

"There is no doubt that these mines were planted by an Armenian sabotage group that infiltrated the area recently.

After the Trilateral Declaration of 2020, a total of 2,728 mines produced in Armenia in 2021 have been detected and neutralized in Azerbaijan from August 2022 to the present. Thus, 1,119 mines were found and neutralized in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, and 1,609 mines were neutralized in the Karabakh Economic Region. In total, since the signing of the Trilateral Declaration in November 2020, 314 people have become victims of mines," he said.

In response to the provocative actions of the Armenian armed forces, which caused casualties among the civilian and military population, the Azerbaijani Army has launched local anti-terrorist measures to disarm these illegal armed formations and neutralize the direct threat to the security of civilians and military personnel of Azerbaijan, Bayramov added.
