A routine court hearing on the criminal case of Vagif Khachatryan, accused of genocide committed by members of Armenian separatist troops in Meshali, Azerbaijan's Khojaly district, will be held today, AzVision.az reports.

The meeting will be chaired by Chairman of the Baku Military Court Zeynal Aghayev.

The rapporteur on the criminal case is Judge Jamal Ramazanov.

In previous trials, a judicial probe was launched before the prosecutor revealed the indictment. The defendants and victims were then questioned in court.

Vagif Khachatryan, an Armenian citizen on the international wanted list in connection with the Meshali genocide, was apprehended at the Lachin border gate in July of this year.

In December 1991, a criminal group led by Khachatryan murdered 25 Azerbaijanis, injured 14 others, and drove 358 Azerbaijanis from their legal abode in Meshali village.

In connection with the emergence of sufficient grounded suspicions, a decision was made to bring Vagif Khachatryan as an accused under Articles 103 (genocide) and 107 (deportation or forced resettlement of the population) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen against him.

About 59 people were recognized as victims in the criminal case.
