Resorting to threats when addressing Azerbaijan is highly inappropriate - MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has expressed its strong disapproval of the recent remarks made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Melanie Joly, during a joint briefing, AzVision.az reports.

The Ministry emphasized that resorting to threats when addressing Azerbaijan is highly inappropriate and unlikely to yield positive outcomes for any party involved.

The statement from the Canadian minister about the nonexistent "humanitarian crisis" in the region, failed to openly support Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and displayed limited interest in the situation of individuals displaced from previously occupied Azerbaijani territories or those forcibly deported from Armenia, was cited as evident proof of Canada's pronounced bias against Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, the Ministry noted that Canada's contemplation of imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan was regarded as an ill-advised approach, as the use of threats in communication with Azerbaijan is counterproductive. The Ministry stressed that such provocative and biased statements only hinder the region's progress and development, which should ideally be based on respect for the principles of international law.
