  Azerbaijani parliament speaker briefs Czech colleague on anti-terrorist measures carried out in Karabakh

As part of her official visit to the Czech Republic, Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic’s Parliament Markéta Pekarová Adamová, AzVision.az reports. 

During the meeting, Markéta Pekarová Adamová emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two legislative authorities, as well as between speakers, committees and friendship groups.

The sides stressed the importance of the mutual cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments within international organizations.

Noting that there are good opportunities for the development of relations in the fields of energy, trade, and economy, the speakers described the cooperation in the field of renewable energy as one of the important areas.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted the exceptional role of political contacts, including high-level visits and meetings in the development of bilateral relations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the current situation in the region, the consequences of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia for nearly 30 years, expelling of one million Azerbaijanis from their native land, the destruction of all infrastructure and buildings, including historical, cultural and religious monuments, in the occupied territories.

Noting that Azerbaijan intends to ensure lasting peace in the region, Sahiba Gafarova once again pointed out that today there is no obstacle to signing a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, adding that Azerbaijan is ready for peace.

Speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová said that the Czech Republic supports peace negotiations, and stressed the importance of establishing sustainable peace in the region.
