Azerbaijani soldier detained in Armenia released and set to return home

Azerbaijani soldier Ruslan Panahov, who was detained in Armenia on February 28th, has been released and returned home.

Armenian troops initially detained Panahov near the border village of Tegh. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) initially stated that Panahov was armed and had crossed the border for unknown reasons. However, after an investigation, the NSS concluded that Panahov had lost his way due to unfavourable weather conditions and approached Armenian positions unintentionally.

No charges were filed against Panahov, and an agreement was reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia for his swift repatriation.

Panahov's return marks a positive development in the ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Both sides have previously agreed to return soldiers who inadvertently cross the border promptly.
