The second meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) took place on March 7th in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Samir Nuriyev, Chair of the Organizing Committee, highlighted the work done since the first meeting. This included expanding the committee to ensure inclusivity by incorporating representatives from Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) and civil society.

Nuriyev emphasized the importance of a fair approach to oil and gas-rich nations and their contributions to environmental issues. He noted Azerbaijan's recent commitment to the "Global Methane Promise" aiming for a 30% reduction in methane emissions by 2030.

Nuriyev also reported the UN's positive evaluation of Azerbaijan's preparedness level based on collaboration with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat.

He expressed confidence in Azerbaijan's ability to bridge the gap between developed and developing nations (global North and South) at COP29, building on its experience with the Non-Aligned Movement.
