Earlier today, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Ghebreyesus congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his re-election and the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan. President Aliyev expressed his gratitude.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming XI Global Baku Forum. The importance of Ghebreyesus' participation was emphasized, and the high number of guests was seen as a sign of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center's growing reputation.
Ghebreyesus expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between WHO and the Center, appreciating its support and his regular meetings with the Center's board members.
Ilham Aliyev emphasized the Center's independence as a non-governmental organization and Azerbaijan's support for its work. He added that the annual Global Forum is a key platform for discussing and finding solutions to international issues.
Ghebreyesus commended Azerbaijan's health reforms, particularly the positive impact of the newly established compulsory health insurance system. The discussion also covered cooperation between Azerbaijan and WHO within the framework of COP29. He highlighted the link between climate change and the spread of diseases and expressed interest in collaborating with Azerbaijan in this area.
