Azerbaijani MPs discuss sustainability and regional issues with British counterparts

During a meeting at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Standing Committee on Sustainable Development in Geneva, Azerbaijani and British parliamentarians explored various areas for cooperation. MPs Soltan Mammadov and Sevil Mikayilova represented the Azerbaijani delegation, AzVision.az reports.

The Azerbaijani delegation briefed their counterparts on their country's preparations for the upcoming COP29 climate change conference. Discussions also focused on potential joint activities within the IPU framework during COP29, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary engagement in combating climate change. The value of mutual visits to strengthen future IPU cooperation was highlighted.

The Azerbaijani MPs provided a detailed update on the current situation in the South Caucasus, outlining steps taken towards normalization of relations with Armenia and their proposed peace agenda. They addressed questions from their British colleagues regarding regional security, prospects for a peace treaty with Armenia, and the development of Azerbaijan-UK relations.

The meeting concluded with a shared recognition of the importance of deepened parliamentary cooperation in fostering stronger bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Great Britain.
