Azerbaijan, World Bank discuss speeding up implementation of AZURE project

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov has met with a delegation of the World Bank's mission on energy, AzVision.az reports. 

During the meeting, held with the participation of Roger Coma Cunill, Senior Energy Specialist, head of the task group, Practice Manager Stephanie Gil and other representatives of the bank, the sides discussed issues related to financing of the strengthening of the transmission network in order to ensure the integration of renewable energy sources into the network.

They reviewed the implementation status and financing possibilities of measures to strengthen the network for the integration of renewable energy sources with a capacity of up to 2GW into the energy system, and to connect the solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 1GW to be built by the "Masdar" company. The pair noted the importance of speeding up relevant processes for timely connection of the 315MW Banka and 445MW Bilasuvar solar power plants to the energy system within the framework of the AZURE project.

The parties also exchanged views on the work done on the Support to the Energy Efficiency Fund and Roadmap for the National Renovation Program of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Technical Assistance Project within the AZTAF program, as well as other aspects of the energy cooperation agenda with the World Bank.
