President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque as it reopened after restoration.
Anar Alekberov, assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, provided detailed information to the head of state about the restoration project.
Restoration works at the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque, which had suffered from Armenian vandalism during the years of occupation of Shusha, have been completed. The building and minarets of the mosque were severely damaged by Armenian armored vehicle fires.
Since December 2021, restoration works have been underway at the mosque by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, with the support of "PASHA Holding". Specialists from Austria, Italy, Latvia, and Turkey collaborated on the project.
The restoration project also included the adjacent madrasa building on the mosque grounds.
A museum has been established in the historical madrasa building on the mosque grounds. The exhibition titled "Museum of Karabakh and East Zangazur: Before and After Occupation. Revival" showcases facts about pre-occupation periods of Karabakh and East Zangazur, religious monuments destroyed by Armenians during the occupation years, historical and cultural monuments, ecological facts, as well as information, photos, and videos about the revival of Karabakh and East Zangazur today.
Visitors to the museum can explore various publications related to the region and enjoy works from the international photo project "Four Seasons in Shusha," presenting landscapes of the city known as the pearl of Karabakh.
