Biden orders Secret Service protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Biden administration announced on July 15 that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate, will receive Secret Service protection in response to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

"In light of this weekend's events, the president has directed me to collaborate with the Secret Service to ensure the protection of Robert Kennedy Jr." Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated during a White House press briefing, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.

Mayorkas highlighted that both before and after the assassination attempt on Trump, the Secret Service had already heightened security measures for the former president due to the "evolving nature of threats."

Trump himself advocated for Kennedy to receive Secret Service protection, stating on his Truth Social platform, "Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!"

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose family has a tragic history of assassinations including President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert F. Kennedy, met with Trump in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday to discuss "national unity" amidst the Republican National Convention.

The FBI is actively investigating the shooting at Trump's Pennsylvania campaign rally as a "potential domestic terrorism act." Robert Wells, the executive assistant director of the FBI’s National Security Branch, assured reporters that their counterterrorism and criminal divisions are working together to determine the motive swiftly.

President Joe Biden emphasized on Sunday that he has directed the FBI to conduct a thorough and expedient investigation into the incident.
