Azerbaijan seeks France

Expressing regret for the offensive comments made by the France2 TV channel, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued an apology to Azerbaijan, where it has stressed that such comments go against its principles and values, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aykhan Hajizada said, AzVision.az reports.

The spokesman addressed the unfair remarks made by a France 2 TV reporter during the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris, regarding Azerbaijan.

"We believe that the biased opinions broadcast on France's official state channel, which politicize the Olympic Games, are part of a deliberate defamation campaign against Azerbaijan. We anticipate an apology from France and demand that similar actions against Azerbaijan be avoided in the future, as France is hosting the Olympics this year," Hajizada said.

To note, during the inaugural ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris on July 26, a reporter from the French national television channel France 2 exhibited discriminatory behavior during the parade of Azerbaijani and Armenian athletes and accused Azerbaijan of clashes with Armenia. The commentator also referred to Armenia as a friend of France and mentioned that this year was memorable for Armenians due to the "fall of Nagorno Karabakh to the Azerbaijani army."
